Points Import for SolidWorks

Point file import add-in for SolidWorks

This program is a Point file import add-in for SolidWorks®. This add-in gives SolidWorks the ability to import point coordinate data from text Point files.

This program reads the coordinate data stored in Point files and imports it into SolidWorks. A Point file is essentially a text file containing the x, y and z coordinate data of a point on each line. This program reads this coordinate data and creates point objects for each points in a SolidWorks document. The points can be imported as a THREE DIMENSIONAL Sketch in a SolidWorks part or assembly document or a 2D Sketch in a drawing document. The points can also be joined by lines or a spline. This is helpful when the points in the point file are stored in a particular order such as a path of motion of an object, points on the boundary of an object or hole in an object, etc.

This program is very easy to use as it adds new commands to SolidWorks. It also adds a submenu to the SolidWorks menu called "PointsImport".

The PointsImport submenu consists of the following commands:

# Import - Import a Points file

# Help - Display the This program help file

# Register - Register your copy of This program

# About - Display the This program About box

This program comes with detailed documentation for each command as well as a tutorial to get you started in the quickest possible time.

The Points File Format

A Point file format is basically a text file containing the times, y and z heads of a point on each line. Usually the heads are stored in the XYZ order. However, points are sometimes stored in the YXZ order. This is normal in survey data where the YXZ order will be referred to Northing, Easting and Elevation. Sometimes each point in the point file has a point quantity and/or description.
